2.1 (i) Application and refinement at the three sites of the VC methods and tools developed and tested in EADD, IPMS and related projects. Application to include indicative quantification of feed purchase/ exchange by users, and determining factors. (ii) In preparation for the field studies, the sites*, methods and tools will be reviewed during the Inception Workshop (Feb 21-22).

  • T____arget dairy, beef, sheep meat value chains and their domains – provisionally the Sululta, Mojo and Menz target sites were selected as representing significant ongoing or emerging opportunities for the commercialization of milk, beef and sheep meat, respectively. At each of the target sites this commercialization is expected to significantly benefit the livelihoods of smallholder households and their market agents.
  • The Inception Workshop will review the basis for selecting the target sites and their value chains and examine the larger domains they are said to represent. If necessary the provisionally selected sites will be replaced by others that are more representative of major development domains in which removing feed resource constraints to marketed beef, dairy and sheep meat production will improve significantly the livelihoods of smallholder households.
  • During the application of the assessment tools at each of these target sites it is proposed that the data are collected at villages reflecting locations close, intermediate and distant from the principal consumption centre/market outlet of each site.
